ICSU Appoints New WDS Scientific Committee
The Executive Board of the International Council for Science (ICSU) recently appointed a new Scientific Committee of the World Data System. In the interests of both continuity and renewal, the ICSU Executive Board decided that half of the previous Committee members would be invited to serve a second three-year term, whereas the remainder would be replaced by other individuals bringing fresh insights to the work of WDS. We would like to express our sincere gratitude to the outgoing Committee members for their involvement and engagement during the past three years.
Six new members were appointed at the end of July for a three-year term (2012–2015), while Professor Bernard Minster was reappointed as Chair of the Committee for a second term. The ICSU Executive Board also decided that—on an exceptional basis—a thirteenth seat is to be established. This position will be filled at a later date by an individual with a background in health or life sciences. A full list of the Scientific Committee, along with their bios, is available here.
