IPO Staff Visit Indian Institute of Geomagnetism

WDC-Geomag_Mumbai.jpgWhilst in India for SciDataCon 2014, Takashi Watanabe (Senior Advisor) and Rorie Edmunds (Programme Officer) of the WDS International Programme Office accepted an invitation from the Indian Institute of Geomagnetism (IIG; host organization of the World Data Centre (WDC) for Geomagnetism, Mumbai; WDS Regular Member) to view their geomagnetism observatory in Jaipur and their historic former observatory in Colaba, which now houses the WDC.

Travelling with Doctors Nose and Koyama of WDC—Geomagnetism, Kyoto (WDS Regular Member), Watanabe-san and Rorie also visited IIG's main campus in Panvel, Navi Mumbai, where they gave talks on the current status of ICSU-WDS and the various projects under the WDS umbrella. There they met with Professor Ramesh (IIG Director), who gave valuable insights on how to increase WDS membership and promote WDS core values in India.

We would like to express our sincere gratitude to Professor Ramesh and Doctor Veenadhari (WDC Manager) for organizing this trip and for their kind hospitality throughout our stay.
