Workshop on Data Initiatives in Africa Concludes
The workshop on Data Initiatives in Africa – Opportunities and Challenges for Research and Sustainable Development convened by WDS took place last week in Grenoble with the participation of 30 experts (10 African countries represented). The meeting explored opportunities and challenges facing several data initiatives in Africa covering a broad range of disciplines and institutions. During the hands on breakout session, participants were able to test the Core Trustworthy Data Repositories requirements and discuss very practical ways to improve sustainability and quality of data management practices. The dialogue established between WDS and the representatives of African data initiatives will continue over the coming months with the objective to trigger data repositories certifications and participation in WDS and other global efforts.
