WDS Receives IUGG Commemorative Centennial Plaque

The International Union of Geodesy and Geophysics (IUGG; WDS Partner Member) celebrated its 100th anniversary at UNESCO headquarters on 29 July 2019. The anniversary was celebrated with a conference promoting international cooperation in Earth and Space Sciences. The Ceremony started with a speech from IUGG President, Prof Kathryn Waler, followed by the presentation of IUGG Honorary Membership to HSH Prince Albert II of Monaco.

The IUGG Bureau issued Centennial Commemorative Plaques, awarding three categories of organizations. Gold plaques went to the nine IUGG Founding Members, and silver and bronze plaques to IUGG's long-standing and significant Partners, respectively. Rorie Edmunds (WDS Acting Executive Director), on behalf of WDS, received a silver plaque from Prof Kathryn Waler in recognition of WDS' long-term cooperation with IUGG over many years.
